No one can deny that 2020 has been an “interesting” year full of challenges.

This time of year, typically characterized by “Back To School” activities for families all over the United States, is just different this year… and your doctor wants you and your family to maintain a good level of health and vitality despite the challenges.

One of the big challenges is that much of the American education system has “gone virtual,” at least for now, in response to the corona virus pandemic.

That means many kids will be returning to school work, but not to their classrooms at school.

Online classes and home-schooling are the rule of the day in 2020.

That’s sure to create more stress and challenges for everyone in the family, and your doctor wants to make sure you and your entire crew are as healthy as possible while we all wait for things to return to normal.

Schedule And Keep Medical Appointments

Consider these facts of our current corona virus lives:

• No sports… and no sports exams. Usually, this is the time of year your young fall sports competitor needs to visit the doctor to be “cleared” for play on the school team. These exams are great for catching ailments of all kinds, including those that might not be related to sports at all… so skipping the exam might come at a cost to your child’s well-being. Also, the lack of physical activity your youngster would ordinarily experience won’t help his or her overall health, either.

• There’s no “school nurse”… unless that would be YOU, Mom or Dad! Under normal circumstances, we might take for granted the fact that there are trained medical eyes on our kids when they attend school. At school, nurses, teachers, and administrators are helping you look out for your kids’ needs… these days, it’s all on you.

• Routine is critical for kids. They might say they don’t like going back to school (didn’t we all?)… but kids need that routine to stay healthy physically, mentally, and socially.

The list of 2020 challenges could go on and on, but the main point is that it’s more crucial than you might imagine to schedule and keep doctor’s appointments for everyone in the family this season.

Another simple fact of life in 2020 is that every business and public institution is putting their best (and cleanest) foot forward to help stop the spread of the virus. That means your family clinic is one of the cleanest, safest places you can go, even when it seems risky to leave your home at all.

Parents Need To Look After Themselves, Too

Mom and Dad are under unusual stresses this year, too.

While you’re scheduling medical appointments for the kids, make sure you’re getting your own check-up, too.

And now is not the time to neglect key daily health habits. You have to take care of yourself so you’ll have the energy and vitality to take care of those youngsters.

Watch what you eat. Get some exercise (playing with the kids in the back yard is great for ALL of you). Drink plenty of water, take at least one good daily multi-vitamin, and get as much sound sleep as you can.

And when you visit the clinic, your medical professionals will check you out and make recommendations on how you can best maintain your own health during this time of turmoil.
