As a parent, bedtime may be one of the most anticipated events of your day, but the same doesn’t usually hold true for your kids. If the prospect of having to go to sleep weren’t bad enough, kids also spend the night tossing, turning, and waking you up for water. Broken nights can make for long, hard days for everyone.

Most kids wake up in the night and sleep in the day which is irritating and tidy for the parents. Also, kids start weeping in night which is not easy for the parents to handle and keep calm the kids. The kid’s parents have to take the help of the kid’s psychologist to tackle this problem. Research says if you leave your kids alone in the room and let them weep for 5 minutes every day, they will get trained to stop weeping themselves.

Here are some tips to help make bedtime more appealing, and sleep more soundly.

1. The Wind-Down Hour

This may be harder on you than on them, but one of the main reasons kids can have a tough time embracing the idea of bed is because they’re overstimulated by too much TV and noise. An hour before their bedtime (and yours, for that matter), turn off the TV and start winding down. Play calm, relaxing music, read books, do puzzles or non-stimulating games (so now’s not the best time to break out Twister!). If they have time to decompress before bedtime, they’re more likely to get to sleep and stay asleep.

2. Get Comfy Sleepwear

Your kid may love his T-REX flannel onesie, but chances are, he’ll overheat in the middle of the night and wake up. Opt for comfy, quality, breathable, easy-to-wash jammies to facilitate a good sleep.

3. Be H2O Ready

If your child frequently wakes up in the middle of the night thirsty, make bringing a glass of water to bed a pre-shut eye ritual.

4. Keep it Cool & Dark

For optimal sleep, the temperature should be cooler than you may think. Between 60 and 67 degrees, F is best. Your blankets will keep you warm, so there’s no need to overdo it with the heating. Also invest in blackout curtains or blinds, since people sleep better in the pitch dark. Of course, this may be compromised if your kid uses a nightlight, but a little glow from one of those is better than a lot from street lamps or early morning sun.

5. Amp Up Day Activity

Make sure your children get enough activity during the day so they sleep well at night. Not just playing Wii, either.  Being active outside in the fresh air is better for overall health and sleep. The vitamin D we get from exposure to the sun is particularly beneficial to the quality of our sleep.
