Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, under which more than 7 Crore free LPG connections have been distributed is changing the lives of women living in rural areas. The scheme has emancipated poor women from the drudgeries of a smoke-filled kitchen and facilitated ease of living.

In a recent study, 82% of all the families who have been given free LPG connection have turned up for the refill of the cylinder. This makes the scheme a very successful movement of Indian government towards the better health of women and cutting down the pollution caused by burning the fossil fuel.

Teary eyes, lung infections, breathing problems and many other diseases which were caused by the black dangerous smoke of fossil fuels have started eliminating from the households using the LPG to cook food.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a very ambitious government schemes in India launched by the Narendra Modi led NDA government in May 2015. Under the Ujjwala scheme, the Government of India is providing free LPG connections to all the ration card holders in the country. Under the first phase of the scheme, LPG connections were given in the name of women belonging to below poverty line families but now, all ration card holders are being provided the free LPG connection.

Under the ujjwala yojana, government of India will be distributing free LPG connections to more than 100 million BPL and poor families in the country by 2020.

Purpose of Prime Minister Ujjwala Scheme

The main purpose of Ujjwala Yojana is to promote the use of clean fuels across India which can be completed by distributing LPG connections for free. One of the objectives of implementing the scheme is that it will promote women empowerment and protect women’s health too.

Reducing the use of fossil fuels currently in use and reducing pollution by increasing the use of pure fuel is also one of the main goals of the plan. Diseases that occur due to the burning of fossil fuels used to cook food are likely to decrease after the implementation of the Ujjwala yojana. In this way, this Indian government schemes will also be helpful in keeping women and children healthy.

How to apply for Prime Minister Ujjwala scheme

It is very easy to apply for a free LPG connection under the Ujjwala Yojana. Any interested and eligible candidate who wants to take advantage of the scheme, he has to submit the Ujjwala yojana application form and submit it to his nearest LPG distribution center.

Ujjwala scheme application can be obtained for free from LPG distribution center or can be downloaded online from the PM Ujjwala Yojana website. It is necessary to fill all the information sought for in 2-page application form such as name, address, Aadhaar card number, public money / bank account number etc.

Within the application form, the applicant can choose whether he needs a 14.2 kg gas cylinder or 5 kg.

The application form is available in both Hindi and English languages.
