We all want to know that the future is bright, but hoping for a better life isn’t enough for some. Sometimes, a little glimpse at the forces of change can bring comfort and even launch a self-fulfilling prophecy that will ensure a promising path ahead. Here are just four ways people have used to foretell the future for themselves, or for others.

Rune-Casting

At the outset, the casting of runes may seem like an obvious activity. Toss out a collection of specially marked stones and interpret the meanings, according to how the stones land. While the generalization may be based on truth, rune-casting is more complex. For starters, the runes represent the entire universe, making divination a trickier act. While the runes are cast, the person requesting the reading focuses his/her conscious and subconscious mind on a specific question. The intent behind that question determines how the stones are cast and, therefore, the result is far less random than people generally assume.

Once the runes have been drawn and formed into the chosen layout, the interpretation of their meanings will require imagination. You should also have an understanding of the traditional meanings behind the images on each rune’s face. In divining the meanings, try to stick to the traditional definitions of each symbol, enhancing those meanings with your own intuition.

Tarot

This is the most well-known form of divination in the western world. Even those who have never touched a tarot deck have at least heard of them and have seen them used on countless television shows and in film. Certain companies, such as Top 10 Jungle, know that the deck of 78 cards is divided into two sections: the major arcana and the minor arcana. The major arcana are the better known cards, consisting of 22 face cards with each card featuring a specific character. The World, The Hanged Man, The Fool, and The Tower are among those included in this portion of the deck. The minor arcana is further divided into four suits: swords, cups, pentacles (or discs in some decks), and wands.

Divination is done similarly as is the case with rune casting with the querent focusing on his/her question, as the deck is shuffled. Again, the cards are interpreted in accordance with established definitions.

Astrology

In astrology, divination is performed by analyzing the sun signs (zodiac) in relation to the planets and the houses. While many sites offer generalized horoscopes, a more thorough and more personal horoscope can be divined through developing one’s one astrological chart. The twelve sun signs are: Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius, Gemini, Sagittarius, and Pisces.

Numerology

Numerology is the study of numbers and their relationship to our lives. The premise behind this form of divination is that each person is born with a correlation to a specific set of numbers. These numbers inform us about the person we’ll become, people we’ll meet, and the events that will unfold in our lives.

Each method of divination is subjective, meaning that it’s up to the reader to determine what the specific symbols mean. Whether divination is a measured analysis of our personality or something more mystical, it can often serve as a guidepost in conflicting times.
