With the newest study related to female orgasm, women may not need a guy or any other sexual stimulation to have orgasms and sexual pleasure.
Even before formal studies were launched, there were already quite a number of qualitative and quantitative data revealing that a small percent of women mentioned orgasm linked to physical exercise. However, such data’s actual prevalence was not delved deeper as the information was only being voluntarily provided by the women.
It was from these reports that the term “coregasms” was coined, brought about by the seemingly link of orgasm to core abdominal muscles exercises.
Pleasure at the Gym
Online surveys were utilized by Herbenick and her colleagues in gathering data from women between the age of 18 and 63. From this, 124 women reported experiencing exercise-induced orgasms while 246 reported exercise-induced sexual pleasure. These women were either in a relationship or are married where 698 percent claimed to heterosexual.
Of these two groups of women, 40 percent of them had experienced exercise induced orgasm or sexual pleasure in more than 11 occasions in their lives. It is important to note that such “orgasm” was not brought about sexual fantasies or thinking about someone that they are attracted to while exercising.
45 percent women who experienced orgasm during exercise had said that their first experience was with abdominal crunches. 19 percent was linked to biking and spinning; 9.3 percent to climbing poles or ropes; 7 percent for both running and weight lifting; while the rest were scattered on other exercises like yoga, swimming, aerobics, and many others. Sexual pleasure that was induced with exercise was linked to a few more types of exercises than the orgasm phenomenon.
Abdominal Exercises Might be the Best
There were also open-ended questions in the survey conducted which revealed more interesting details about this phenomenon. An example is that abdominal exercises that are tied to orgasms were associated with a certain kind of movement where the woman supports her weight on their forearms. On a captain’s chair with padded arms, the woman will then lift her knees toward her chest.
Another revelation from the open-minded questions is that the orgasms tend to occur right after multiple sets of crunches and other abdominal exercises. Orgasms rarely happen after just a couple of repetitions. They also happen after the woman has already exerted herself.
“Many of these women talked about it happening even as children,” Herbenick said, adding that there were some that indicated an experience at age 7 or 8. Interestingly, she also added that “We had at least one woman in the study who was a virgin, and she really loved that she could have these experiences at the gym,”
The researches exactly are not sure why there are certain kinds of exercises that can lead to sexual pleasure and orgasm. She hopes that this study that they spearheaded will be picked on by more researches for ongoing studies.
“It may be that exercise, which is already known to have significant benefits to health and well-being, has the potential to enhance women’s sexual lives as well,” Herbenick said, further stating that there are no exact exercises that could potentially enhance the sexual experiences of women.
